Poultry Unit Staff in Portugal: Shifts and Profiles
When a poultry or egg unit needs extra hands, the request often starts as a single sentence: we need more people. That tells an agency very little. To find people who suit the work, we need to know what will be done, at what rhythm and from when. This guide covers what is worth deciding before you ask for poultry unit staff in Portugal, and how to handle the parts you have not settled yet. There is no single right answer, because every unit runs differently, which is exactly why preparing helps.

What should you define before asking for extra people?
Start with the tasks, not the headcount. In a poultry or egg unit, work can include looking after the birds, collecting and sorting eggs, cleaning and disinfecting houses between flocks, preparing materials, or helping with loading and unloading. Each task suits a different kind of person, and lumping them into one description makes the request vague.
- The main tasks and the occasional ones
- The site and the type of unit
- Who coordinates the team day to day
- What is already decided and what is still open
How do you describe a shift pattern you have not finalised?
Poultry units follow routines set by the birds as much as by the clock. Explain how the work is organised: whether there are morning and afternoon shifts, whether weekends are involved, and whether some periods are busier, such as cleaning between flocks. You do not need every detail, but a general picture helps us suggest people who fit that rhythm.
If the pattern is still open, say so. Our request form lets you mark anything you are not sure about yet, and our team will talk it through with you. We would rather receive an honest request with open questions than one that looks fixed and changes in the first week.
How much experience does the role really need?
Not every role needs previous poultry experience. Some tasks can be learned on site if someone explains what to do and why. More sensitive tasks benefit from people who have worked with birds or in similar settings. Think about what you can teach in-house and what must arrive already known.
Be clear about what is demanding: close contact with animals, smell, enclosed buildings, physical effort, and hygiene and entry rules. People who know this beforehand can judge whether the work suits them, which cuts down on unexpected departures.
- Support roles with training on site
- Roles with direct contact with the birds
- Cleaning and preparation of houses
- Hygiene and access rules the person should know about
When does the period start, and what about housing and transport?
The start date shapes the search more than most people expect. Requests made well before the busy weeks give more room to find suitable people. Last-minute requests can still be looked at, but availability depends on the season, the role and the moment. We do not promise fixed deadlines or guaranteed numbers, and we prefer to say so upfront.
In rural areas, distance to the unit matters to anyone deciding whether to accept the work. Housing and transport are not a standard promise from us: we discuss them case by case, depending on the role, the place and the client. If your unit is far from towns, mention it in the request.
For the first days, plan a simple welcome: who greets the person, what equipment is needed, which areas they can enter and who answers questions.
How can we help, and how do you get in touch?
We are a temporary work agency based in Zambujeira do Mar, in the municipality of Odemira, working in agriculture, poultry, tourism and hospitality, and construction. You can request staff through the request form on our website, by phone or by email. After the form, our team gets in touch to understand the details. Every request is looked at case by case.
Our office is at Rua da Palmeira 51, Zambujeira do Mar, and is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 17:00.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know the exact number of people before I send a request?
Not necessarily. Tell us what you already know and mark what is still undecided. Our team will then talk it through with you. We cannot guarantee a set number of people, because availability depends on the season, the role and the moment.
Can I ask for people with no poultry experience?
Yes, if the tasks are support work and someone can guide them on site. For more sensitive roles, experience may matter more. Tell us what your unit can teach and what the person needs to know already.
Do workers pay AllGreen anything?
No. As company policy, people who work with us pay AllGreen nothing. We only work with people aged 18 or over.
Does AllGreen provide housing and transport?
It is not a standard promise. We discuss it case by case, depending on the role, the place and the client.
